Subject:TARDIS-Verse reading order
Event type:Sticky
Security:Public

I've had a number of folks ask about the order for the TARDIS*-verse stories. Here's show chronologica order at FF.net. The order in which I wrote them follows in parentheses, but were I you, I'd go with "show order."

  1. TARDIS-time and relative dimension in space (written first)

  2. Objects in Space (written ninth)

  3. Calculation (written third)

  4. Nighthawks (runs concurrent with Calculation; written fifth)

  5. Until (written eighth)

  6. Unexpected Light (written fourth)

  7. Maybe I'll Miss You (written seventh)

  8. Danger in Blue (written eleventh)

  9. Joyously Home (written twentieth

  10. Dawn Before the Rest of the World (written eighteenth)

  11. Stop Making Sense (written fourteenth)

  12. Stupid Mouth Shut (written sixth)

  13. Circle 'Round the Sun  (written second)

  14. The Possibility of Possibility (written twelfth)

  15. Memento Vivere (written tenth)

  16. For Now And Then (written thirteenth)

  17. Kith and Kin (written seventeenth)

  18. Picturesque and Mythical (written fifteenth)

  19. History, Moving Quickly (written sixteenth)

  20. Home to You (written nineteenth)

  21. Fugit Lux

*What is the TARDIS-verse, you ask? Despite the name, this is not a Dr. Who crossover, just borrowing the idea of being outside of regular time and space. Beginning with Killshot, it's a series of stories that are either explicitly episode associated (i.e., post-eps or missing scenes), or taking place between episodes. In these stories, Castle and Beckett use "Time Outs" as an opportunity to spend time together and progress in their relationship without the pressure of it "counting" in the daylight. They're very loosely related and self-contained for the most part, so you can dip into them at will.

Sorry if you also follow me on Tumblr and this is a repeat . . .

Subject:Material Witness----Where Do I Begin? (2 x21-2 x24; 6 x 24)
Security:Public

Title: Where Do I Begin?

WC: ~4400

Summary: "Kate Beckett has made an honest man of him. She's made him a liar."

A/N: If you're not familiar with this series, I began it a cuople of years ago on the heels of a story I wrote just after Secret Santa aired. The conceit is that Castle has accumulated gifts he never gave to Beckett over the years. Technically, this is the 17th chapter of a single story, but  in reality the chapters can be read as independent stories. I thought until recently I was completely done, but this is another unexpected chapter, and it's on the long side. It's set from Den of Thieves (2 x 21) up through A Deadly Game (2 x 24) and then after For Better or Worse (6 x 24).

Where do I begin

To tell the story

Of how great a love can be?

Title: A Brief Madness, Ch. 3

WC: ~3700, this chapter; ~8500 so far

Summary: " Things fall into place between them. He's amped up by the possibility of ghosts. Tugged by the current of story stretching back and back. Twenty years. A hundred. She teases him, a little rough. He pushes back, bolder with her than he's been. He lets his mind wander and his mouth run like he hasn't in months, and it's like this tight, tentative way they've been with each other is breaking down." Set during and after Demons (4 x 06)

A/N: Again, sorry that these come slowly and unexpectedly. Once again, I had the beginning and the rest came only recently.

Beauty of whatever kind,

in its supreme development,

invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.

Title: In The Event Of, ch. 4

WC: ~3000 this chapter; ~11,200 total

Rating: T

Summary: “It’s a kind of McGuffin. A dramatic reveal with unmistakable weight, but it’s not the center of the thing. With his heart pounding under her cheek and the two of them shivering with something that’s not quite unpleasant, she still knows that. She still believes. If it could tell them what happened—if it could tell them how—he would have said, long before now. She knows he would have.”

A/N:  So this is it. No kind of resolution for what actually happened in those two months, but this is what my Brain wanted to tell about. As with the other pieces, it’s set after Montreal (7 x 02), but it’s spoiler free other than that and after that, not really engaging with what we’ve seen on canvas since then.

Title: In the Event of, Ch. 3

Rating: T

WC: ~1800 this chapter, ~ 8200 so far

Summary: "His mouth twitches into a brief frown. They're working on this. Getting past this new habit of reassurance—I know. Of course. I know. Getting past the sour note that sounds every time either of them voices something that's gone powerfully unsaid almost as long they've known one another—I know you. I trust you. Always."

A/N: I guess this is four chapters with a kind of ending after all. This—or the next chapter, anyway—is the end point I had in mind when I started this back after Montreal aired, but I didn’t quite envision this path to it. As with the other pieces, it’s set after Montreal (7 x 02), but it’s spoiler free other than that and after that, not really engaging with what we’ve seen on canvas since then.

Title: In the Event Of, Ch. 2

Rating: T

WC: ~3800, this chapter

Summary: "I know." His eyes fall closed. He says it to himself, again and again, under his breath. "I miss you while I was gone."

She wishes it were confusing the way his tenses slide past each other. She wishes neither of them had to make sense of how that can be, when it just is. It just was.

A/N: I don't know about this. I had the first part of this chapter hanging around for a long while, and I suppose it's about to become obsolete. But I don't know about this. Takes place after Montreal (7 x 02), but doesn't necessarily engage much about season 7 from there on.

She smells something fantastic as soon as the elevator opens on their floor and knows today's the day. Not nothing."

Title: Seasons Such As These

Rating: T

Summary: "It feels sudden to her and she thinks it probably shouldn't. She thinks it's another family thing and she's missed all the subtext leading up to this moment. She feels a flutter in her stomach and their words filling her ears."

A/N: My Brain is unconvinced that it has an incredible amount of work it should be doing. Set sometime not too long after Reckoning (7 x 14), though it has nothing really to do with the events of the two-parter.

How shall your houseless heads and unfed sides,

Your loop'd and window'd raggedness, defend you

From seasons such as these? O, I have ta'en

Too little care of this!

Summary: She shakes her head, ignoring him mostly. Caught up, because she loves this, too. The unexpected rhythm to this. The way he’s still doling out these things more than a year on. The way he knows she loves presents, though she’d never say it in a million years.

Well. Trying to minimize social media presence seems to have had zero impact on unpleasantness. And I'm kind of tired of letting my fandom world be whittled away by a handful of lousy individuals. I'm going to start posting my things here again.

I have a small backlog, which I'll put up gradually.
